Reno newspaper joins Moral Majority; claims pornography illegal

In an ongoing push toward ‘interpretive journalism,’ the Reno Gazette-Journal announced today that it was joining the Moral Majority as part of the newspaper’s efforts to cleanse northern Nevada of social filth. In a published announcement, the newspaper collectively spoke for the Reno community—and all cultures around the globe—by declaring pornography illegal and degrading to women.

“Fascination with such material is considered by society to lie at the core of personal darkness, indicating that a harm exists in the individual,” the RGJ wrote in an editorial today. “Possessing such material is legally banned because it has been decided that it harms society as well.”

Porn-industry CEOs and sex workers took umbrage at what they said were the RGJ’s ill-informed remarks.

“Claiming pornography objectifies women ignores the long-standing, and frankly damn sexy, tradition of man-on-man love flicks,” said Guy Peterhard, CEO of Pump Me Up, Inc., a Hollywood-based adult-movie production company. “The RGJ also neglects to inform us just how female-produced and female-owned erotica degrades women, as well as the plethora of amateur-produced fuck flicks on websites from every country in the world.”

RGJ Editor Beryl Lovemaker said in response that, despite his last name, the RGJ stands by its editorial.

Peterhard, on the other hand, suggested that instead of chastising others’ alleged “personal darkness” that the RGJ “admit what everybody knows already—porn is a gazillion dollar industry for a reason. Most people get off on it, probably even RGJ employees.”
